Emma Valenghi of Out Of The Garden Shed Studios

is a freelance illustrator based in Yorkshire.

Emma is a busy Mummy to four gorgeous little ones - Jeremiah, Reuben, Phineas and Eveyln.

 

"I have always had a love of children’s picture books and having all of these little humans in my house is the perfect excuse to indulge my addiction! My biggest inspiration comes from nature and childhood imagination. I am obsessed with the ideas the children come up with and the games they play, just magical! I remember telling myself when I was about ten years old that I would never stop playing and start acting ‘boring’ like the grown ups did. Well, that didn’t exactly happen - I now understand my Nana’s expression ‘a nice sit down’! But I do still get lost in my drawings and I find that bridge there between grown up life and play! It is wonderful!"

 

Emma loves creating little worlds and  illustrations which tell a story and inspire imaginations. Her work is full of texture and is heavily illustrated.

Following her degree at Northumbria University, where she specialised in screenprinting fabrics with her illustrations, she worked as an In-house Designer for Paperdove, Hallmark and Moonpig.com. Emma is a versatile designer and her work has expanded from greetings cards to children’s illustration, character design, surface pattern, and even the occasional large scale mural. Her designs have appeared in high-street stores such as Paperchase, M&S, Next, John Lewis and most leading supermarkets.

 

Current clients include Hallmark, UKGreetings, American Greetings, Card Factory, Colour Heros, Highlights and Jellycat London, as well as many independant companies and individuals.
